Representatives of Neturei Karta, participated today (Sunday) in Ramallah, for the anniversary of the death of Yasser Arafat. At the conference, Palestinian Authority Chairman Abu Maazan said that he has repeatedly said that the PLO intends to turn to the General Assembly of the UN this month, to request a status of observer state in the institutions of the organization.
Maazan said that he is determined to do so, despite the pressure on him and threats by the U.S. and Israel.
"We will issue a request this month, and within two days the Arab League will notify uswhat the exact date for this month will be." According to him, the PLO intends to do so, "even though they do not want us to request. We will not refuse the legitimacy of Israel and we do not want to deny it, but we want to hurt the legitimacy of the settlements, "he said.
Maazan also discussed the death of Arafat eight years ago and said that Russian experts turned to the authorities and asked to join contacts with the French and Swiss team who are investigating the circumstances of the "strange" death, as he defined it.
Representatives of the Neturei Karta organization were also in the audience and stood out in their black attire, which they clipped identification tags and Palestinian flags onto.
