It turns out that the rocket range increased and other cities have joined the terrorism circle: for the first time since the first Gulf War, missiles landed in Gush Dan.
An air raid system was implemented in the lowland area of Rishon Letzion, after detection of a long-range Fajr launch missile, capable of reaching a distance of 75 km. A siren was sounded at 16:36 in Rishon LeZion and Kfar Chabad, and frightened residents who ran down to the shelters, some of them said that they heard an explosion in the distance.
Yitzchak Aharonovitch, Internal Security Minister confirmed in a conversation with Channel 2 that there was a hit in the open area near Rishon Lezion. He said there were no injuries.
This is a double precedence, both because of the distance the rocket must go to reach the city, and due to the fact that the Iron Dome could not intercept the missile.
A little later a siren was sounded throughout all of Gush Dan, followed by a loud explosion. According to reports, there were at least two hits in Tel Aviv, but so far there is no known damage or casualties. In Bat Yam a siren was sounded, followed by an explosion, but there is no reported damage or injuries yet.
Sirens were heard in most cities in the Dan region, including some areas in Bnei Brak, Petah Tikva, Givatayim, Rehovot and Nes Ziona.
A little after 20:00, there was a direct hit at an empty house in Beer Sheva, there were no injuries.
Islamic Jihad took responsibility for launching missiles at Gush Dan, according to their staff, the missile fired at the Tel Aviv area was a Fajr 5: "we have extended the range to reach Tel Aviv and what is yet to come will be even greater," they promised.
The IDF Spokesman said: "Up until now we have not been reported on hits on in Gush Dan. The shooting was probably at south Tel Aviv. There is currently no HFC change for residents of Gush Dan; we are expecting a restless night. "Police said that since hearing the explosions they are looking for the place of the fall.
IDF preparing for ground incursion to the strip
Following the escalation, the IDF are conducting entrance to Gaza. Firing at Kiryat Malachi caused the deaths of three, along with shooting at Gush Dan caused the security cabinet to decide on the approval of an extensive recruitment of reservists, and a ground incursion into the Gaza Strip.
IDF spokesman, Brigadier General Yoav (Poly) Mordechai, said at a briefing for reporters: "The IDF continues to surgically operate in Gaza, targeted attacks - not against outposts, not against police stations - but against rocket fire launch positions. So far they achieved a severe strike at long-term fire by Hamas and Islamic Jihad. IDF managed to thwart several vertebrae while shooting. So far there 14 terrorists were killed in the Gaza Strip.
"Every hour there is more than 12 attacks in the Gaza Strip, all day and all night. We will continue tonight and tomorrow. As time goes on the attacks will increase. The Home Front has an effective active defense. We received a blow Kiryat Malachi and we send our condolences to the families. I ask to listen to instructions by the HFC and combined active defense HFC guidelines - achieving optimum result.
"IDF forces, regular brigades of paratroopers and Givati, are preparing areas and entry to the Gaza Strip. We will act as necessary and according to political leadership. "I suggest stopping waves of rumors and reports which are not responsible," said IDF spokesman. "In Gush Dan there is no change in the instructions of HFC's defense, they are relevant to a range of 40 miles.
"We have received clear instructions from the Prime Minister. We are at the stage of expansion of the battle, according to an orderly and consistent plan. The offense continues, resolute and determined in the Gaza Strip. Secretary of Defense approved a few minutes ago to expand mobilization of 30,000 reservists. All options are still on the table, and the reality is understood. No state will suffer damage to its citizens. We will focus on significant damage to the terrorist infrastructure in the Gaza Strip."
Front Protection Minister Avi Dichter related to the firm increase in step by Israel: "We are on our way to a restless night; we are prepared to expand operations in Gaza. The civil resilience we disseminate is the oxygen the military system is in need of - for further action."
Defense Minister Ehud Barak said: "The shooting in the direction of Gush Dan and scope of shooting to the direction of the country, is an escalation that the other side will have to pay the price for." Barak said that he is convinced that the operation will achieve its objectives, "even if it takes time."
At around 23:00, after Air Force planes attacked ammunition depots and underground launching positions, the IDF spokesman said: "During the last hour the IDF widely attacked 70 sub launching positions - underground, designed to fire medium-term (up to 40 miles) at Israeli communities.
"The goals targeted were identified by accurate information collected for months and according to detailed operational planning which came to fruition. These have been identified as being accurate targets. The purpose of the move is a significant deepening of launch capabilities to harm Israeli settlements.
"Gaza became an Iranian base in front and it puts the citizens of Israel under rocket fire and unbearable terror. The army is determined and will continue to attack targets that are bases for terrorism against Israeli civilians."
