Reinforced security around synagogues in New York, CBS network reported, In addition to reinforced security in synagogues around the world.
NYPD blocked this morning (Friday) the compound surrounding the Israeli Consulate in Manhattan, due to rallies at the site for demonstrations to protest against
the 'Pillar of Defense' operation taking place in the Gaza Strip. More protests, for and against the operation, were also outside the Israeli consulate in San Francisco.
In the UK, hundreds of people demonstrated in front of the Israeli embassy in London. Police outlined the enclosure around the embassy.
Opposite them a small handful demonstrated in support of Israel. Over 200 police officers separated the protestors.
President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez condemned the operation and said that the attack in Gaza is barbaric act against the Palestinians. "Once again, the State of Israel was bombing Gaza," he said, "Abu Maazan insisted on turning to the UN General Assembly to obtain the status of observer state - a realistic vision, and this is the reaction."
Tehran also condemned the Gaza operation. Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Saleh, called on the UN and the EU to stop the "barbaric attack" by Israel, and said that "the international organizations should act immediately and seriously to end the Israeli military operation in Gaza."
