Community administration elections in Jerusalem: 5 haredi women running

150 thousand inhabitants of Jerusalem vote today (Tuesday) in the Community Administrations elections in 14 neighborhoods. The election results have a great influence on various community issues - including development and cleaning, house prices, conduct, lifestyle and character of the neighborhood.

This is the third election in the city over three years - the first in neighborhoods where there was no election process for a decade, and some where elections have never been held before.

More than 230 competitors are seeking to be elected - a third of them women. Other interesting data: for the first time since elections in the city are held, five Hareidi women are competing.

While voting in most neighborhoods is running smoothly, in Ramat Eshkol neighborhood, which belongs to the French Hill, there is a persistent struggle going on between the Hareidi candidate and the secular woman candidate. The Haredi residents of the neighborhood related in a conversation with Behadrey Haredim that the secular had tried to undermine the Hareidi candidate, since they claim he slandered the secular candidate.

Beyond that secular activists were accused of trying to place mobile ballots in forbidden places.

In Morasha neighborhood, which belongs to the area defined as city center, there is a struggle between religious and secular.

In other places, Kiryat Menachem and Givat Masu'a, Beit Hakerem, East Talpiot, Neve Yaakov, Kiryat Yovel, Givat Shaul (Beit Ross), Romema, Ramat Shlomo, Wadi Joz, A -Tur, Har Nof and Pisgat Zeev, elections are running smoothly.

The electoral system to the suburb administrations is regional, and each neighborhood was divided into several socio-geographical zones, in order to ensure proper representation of all the different groups living in the neighborhood.

In neighborhoods where there is concern about minority groups taking over, a special model was activated that enables and ensures correct and proper representation for all residents, while maintaining a balance, providing proper expression and maintaining the original character of the neighborhoods.
