An air raid siren was sounded at 10:06 in the Ashkelon coast council communities, following the identification of a rocket launching from Gaza. But the rocket exploded in Palestinian territory.

10 minutes later the alarm was activated again, but it was soon discovered that it was a false alarm.

Chief of Staff - Gen. Benny Gantz instructed the Home Front Command to handle and assist regional councils and communities harmed during the operation and within the fire range.

In a meeting with reporters he said that during the Pillar of Defense operation the IDF attacked "anything that moves in the Gaza Strip in terms of infrastructure of terrorism, tunnels, smuggling and assault, weapons stores, launching pits and strategic facilities."

Gantz explained that "the political leadership ordered the IDF to act against Hamas, to improve the security situation in the region," he said. "Our idea was based on the production of opening mode which enabled a surprise attack against the Hamas leadership of the movement and assassination of Ahmed Jabari, while causing a fatal blow to the strategic capabilities of Hamas and other organizations."

He added that during the eight days of the operation, the IDF hit Jabari and dozens of activists and officers of terrorist organizations, "with as minimal damage as we could, to those uninvolved. IDF destroyed all types of rocket launchers hidden in the soil for years. Whatever we identified we attacked."

The Chief of Staff discussed the raising of tens of thousands of reservists for order 8. "The reservist system has allowed us to be strong in other areas and to prepare for the operation in Gaza. We are not allowed to go into action without preparation for its next stage. Everyone who came was recruited quickly after years of training. Reservists found eligible emergency stores and received pre-structured tasks. "

Celebrations throughout the West Bank.

Beware of falls

Police appeal to citizens who find duds, or other weapons, not to touch these items, as they may be dangerous, and contain active explosives and harm those who handle them with lack of professionalism.

Israel Police calls for citizens to call the 100 and report any suspicious objects associated with these duds in order that the explosives are professionally taken care of by those in the field.
