Suspected abuse: Baby from Telzestone hospitalized with broken ribs

Investigators from Harel station in Jerusalem arrested yesterday for questioning a religious couple, residents of the Telzestone community on suspicion of causing injuries to their three months old baby.

The investigation started when the baby was brought to Hadassah Hospital in Ein Kerem. Following tests it was found that his hand and two of his ribs were broken.

The father was arrested and during interrogation he denied that he beat his son. The father claimed that he slipped on the baby and broke his ribs as a result – and when he tried to lift him he broke his hand.

The father was brought to the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court, where he was remanded for a day. The mother was interrogated and released on estrangement.

The baby is still in the hospital.

Attorney Yair Nehorai, representing the parents, said in response to B'Chadrei Charedim: "This is an unfortunate accident that essentially is not criminal. We hope that the investigation will end in the coming hours and they will be releases tomorrow with the consent of the police. "
