Orthodox youngster arrested: suspected robbery of wig salon in Jerusalem

An orthodox youngster was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of robbing a wig salon in Jerusalem and attacking the owner. The arrest took place after the wig salon owner who was attacked filed a complaint with the police.

On Sunday, whilst walking on Shmuel Hanavi Street in Jerusalem, she noticed one of the young men who attacked her, and contacted the police investigator who handled the complaint she filed. Jerusalem police detectives arrived at the scene within a short time and detained the young man for questioning.

The 21 year old is suspected of physical assault to the wigs salon owner in Jerusalem. Yesterday (Monday) he was brought to the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court where he was released under restrictive conditions. The investigation is continuing.
During the investigation the youngster denied the allegations, and police are checking his and other youngster's connection to robbery incidents that occurred in the recent past in at least five wigs salons.

In a conversation with B'Chadrei Charedim the wig salon owner recalled what happened last week, "hooded men wearing tzitzis entered, their bodies conveyed aggression and violence, red and scary eyes - and closed the salon door behind them. They started going wild, turning over and stealing every wig they could get their hands on."

She says, "The robbers knew just what to take. The majority of stolen wigs are valued at NIS 8,000 or more per wig. Not to mention wigs belonging to customers which were stolen."

As revealed in B'Chadrei Charedim, during the last two weeks similar attacks were carried out at wig salons. The assessment is that the attackers are motivated by "reasons of modesty", and sanctified war to wig wearers.
