Who will take care of those who do not have sugar? • "Aryeh", shouted Shasnikim

Every Shasnik has a piece of Deri in his DNA: Shas conference election rally in Haifa became a passionate admiration rally for the Chairman who returned from exile • Sari Roth reports the messages, speeches, and apology

Who will take care of those who do not have sugar? • "Aryeh", shouted Shasnikim

The car made its way to the outskirts of Haifa and I felt the air of the north. Welcome to the Northern State; forget everything you knew about the activities of the Center and Jerusalem, when you are invited to a gathering of activists in the North - that's another story.

Having grown up in the north and recognizing the intoxicating atmosphere, I knew that what is seen at other conferences in the country is nothing compared to what appears here. I personally find that northern residents, even political activists are more real, authentic. Here you can see the true picture of the area.

Truthfully, I am one of those who think that the idea of unity, as beautiful and unique as it is, cannot stand the test of reality. For me this is a comedy show of a touring company that will travel from region to region until Election Day, trying to lighten the area. I am of those who do not believe this show can work on the press - the end of 2012, and in an era where all cell phones become a camera broadcast station.

The original plan was to bring Aryeh Deri himself to the Shas activity centers throughout the country; after all, he is in charge of the area, for better or worse. But when you have triplets you cannot do it, someone will always get hurt, so you must take all three, in addition to the security guards (in events of this kind, VIP protection unit do not take risks), from city to city, from village to village, to give each of them the stage to speak, to worry that activists treat all three equally. It should not work.

A piece of Deri in the DNA of each and every Shasnik

Housing Minister Ariel Atias, was sitting there with his hat. It was pretty clear he'd rather spend those hours at the de – Marker conference or globes, instead of giving a fiery speech, full of verses and ideas about the case – to roll numerical data of housing starts, indices and interest rates.

When the unity agreement was signed, there are those who suspected he wanted to be one of the leaders of the movement. It took everyone a while to realize that it was the greatest punishment one could impose on him. It's not for him, not built for him, not sewn on him. Ariel Atias is not made of the stuff of 'down to the ground,' Give him the Bureau, books and numbers. But this was a specific request of a rabbi, his loyalty to the people there is well known, and he was forced to swallow the bitter pill, swallow it and try not to vomit.

Leave the politics; the members of the North are not quite interested in it. I still remember the times when the movement was led by Aryeh. Often Shas representatives would come to Kiryat Ata (where we lived) to our house, my father was then chairman of Degel HaTorah in the 'city. At that time all the children studied at the Talmud Torah he ran (as I often wrote in my columns, even Yoav Lalum was a Talmud Torah student there, and until today he mentions my father with great admiration and the period in which he studied there), and local politics was conducted peacefully. I remember the way the Shasniks mentioned the name of Aryeh. As a child, I quickly learned that he is above the rest; they talked about him like they spoke of Menachem Begin, and with the same awe.

Some of these people, who are elderly now, attended the event yesterday. You should know, in the north representatives are almost interchangeable. Almost nothing happens there, the activity is conducted smoothly, and politics are quite different and much less emotional than the central and southern regions. I saw them yesterday, I looked at them, and I could not look away from that sparkle. Their Aryeh had returned, there he was, alive, kicking and breathing.

They of course did not rebel the leadership of the last ten years, not at all. For them, the Rabbi changed the chairman, the Rabbi decides. They fell into line and accepted without question the leadership of Eli Yishai. The 'Northern' are disciplined, quick to align. But they say that in every adult Shasnik there is a piece of Deri in his DNA.
