Haredim to Barkat: "Don't send us brochures for property taxes"

The faction of United Torah Judaism in the Jerusalem municipality demanded of the mayor, Nir Barkat, not to hand out the city's brochure attached to the annual property tax billing, in Hareidi neighborhoods. "The brochure offends the Hareidi public's feelings. It doesn't suit our lifestyle."
Every year the Haredi council members receive inquiries from people who want to act in any way to prevent the sending of property tax booklet attached to the annual property tax account or to produce a booklet suitable for the hareidi public, due to a mismatch in the brochure in its advertising content and pictures.
Last year last-minute attempts were made to prevent the sending of the booklet, but that did not work out in the end.
Faction members now ask the mayor, that the city will send the property tax charges, with no advertising brochures, if the municipality is unable to meet the target of producing a booklet suited to the Haredi sector.
"It is impossible," said the members of the party, "to force people to bring into their homes materials that do not match their lifestyles and hurt their feelings, especially when it is done by a public authority. Even private companies have long understood the need not to send material which is not an affront to the haredi public, and most of them edit materials which are particularly suitable for this large community. "
The United Torah Judaism Council members who sent the letter to Barkat wrote: "It is unfortunate to think, that as a resident, who pays property tax according to the law, we are required to deal with a material value hazard, and instead of the municipality as service provider, will come towards me, we lose out and a very large public is offended."
Precisely the Jerusalem municipality, is not responsive in recent years to the request as a public body, and continues to send the brochure which does not suit the lifestyle of the haredi public to mailboxes in the neighborhoods.
The Jerusalem Municipality replied to Behadrey Haredim: "This is a booklet attached to property taxes every year for residents. The municipality maintains the contents of the booklet in order to prevent an offense to all residents and populations in the city of Jerusalem. There is no change in the booklet produced this year than in any other year."
