Chilling: neighbors lit candle in apartment of deceased by rocket

On Thursday, the first day of Operation 'Amud Anan', a rocket landed on a building in Nachalat Har Chabad in Kiryat Malachi. The outcome was tragic: Mira Scharf, Aharon Smadja and Yitzchak Amsalem hy"d were killed.

Tonight (Sunday), in a chilling event, a neighbor lit the second candle of Hanukkah in family Amsalem's living room, whose son Yitzchak hy"d was killed.

The apartments of Amsalem and Scharf families, which are located on the fourth floor in building 160 on the street, were left abandoned since the rocket hit. The Amsalem family has announced that it does not intend to return to live in the apartment, due to the emotional hardship involved.

The Scharf family, who lost their mother, Mira Scharf hy"d, also lived in a rented apartment on the fourth floor.

Mendy Wigler, a Chabad Hasid and a neighbor on the first floor in the building, placed a large menorah today in the living room overlooking the main road, and along with his father in law, Harav Sholom Ber Garelik, lit a second candle of Hanukkah. "There are no words to explain," he says to Behadrey Haredim. "It was exciting and chilling alike. An awful feeling that only a month ago people lived here and the apartment became vacant.

"Many people on the street and cars driving on the road, stop and take pictures of the building. We wanted to publicize the miracle of Chanukah, in that we placed the menorah exactly in the living room where the rocket's hit occurred."

Meanwhile, today the property tax authorities came to check the estimated damage to the apartment.
