"Decrees to the Yeshiva students - endanger the right to exist"
Rosh Yeshiva of Ponovicz, Hgrch"sh Leibowitz, in a special reinforcing letter for the days of Chanuka, "especially in such times we must strengthen in learning and in Torah study"

The present draft decree hovering on the world of Torah was published last week, in the Yeshiva halls, a special letter from the Ponovicz Rosh Yeshiva Hgrch"sh Leibovitz, in which he raises the issue, linking it with Chanuka.
Among the quotes Hgrch"sh makes a rare statement from the Hgry"z of Brisk zt"l, in which he heard, related to this, that the Israeli governments rights are due to Torah study by yeshiva students.
The following is the text of the letter:
"Sunday 26th Kislev 2nd candle of Chanukah תשע"ג
"It is written in the hymn of Maoz Tzur, etc., of her days of eight set song and exaltation, and it is explained that it was needed to set a song and exaltation, and why was there need to set a song and exaltation which is not found in other thanksgivings for the miracles of Israel?
"And we must say truthfully, even after they entered the Temple and lit candles in purity the war had still not ended, and therefore could not state song and exaltation. And as it is known what Maran Hagr"ch zy"a said on the verse in Psalms, and I trusted in thy mercy of my salvation, Sing to the Lord that funds me, one the security Yagel my salvation, but Sing to the Lord is just that funds me. The song is only to be done for salvation practice, so only in their wisdom realized that since all the desire of the Greeks was to make them forget their teachings and transfer them from the rules of Hashem, now that they maintain the existence of pure Torah they already won the war, and strangers in the hand of Torah teachings and is already set to exalt and song, and is not similar to other confessions who saw the actual victory that did not have to set a song for exaltation."
And here Hgrch"sh relates to current events: "We are in the midst of a difficult time for the people of the holy Torah seeking to revoke their Talmud Torah, and certainly with their evil minds, they put the people of Israel in danger, and I remember when I went to Maran Hgry"z zy"a, Rabbi Amram Blau zt"l entered, and told him that all miracles made in our times in Israel, and even though at the top of the war were sterilized wicked anti religious people, certainly came about due to the power of the Torah learners, and Maran Hgry"z answered it is not true, they only win due to the right that they give to the people who study Torah, and even though they are evil and they explained that the Gemara in the generations of Achab though they worshipped idols, they would win the war, because they would support Torah scholars, and said we did not diminish our time since then.
"And now due to the evil decrees on the Yeshiva students they are endangering themselves and the rights to exist and we are now in great danger, therefore in this time the Bnei Torah must strengthen and learn even more Torah. The more we strengthen in Torah the Torah will bring us victory, and may Hashem bring us miracles just like he did to our forefathers in the past during these days, and may He remove all evil thoughts from their minds."
