This afternoon (Monday) the special committee plans Jerusalem approved to complete the program of construction of 1,500 housing units in Ramat Shlomo.

The certificate is the final approval that all that is left now is to sell the land to contractors.

Two action options remaining for opponents: if those who oppose will achieve three signatures of members of the District Committee, they will have the option to appeal the decision of the National Planning and Construction, or by an appeal to the courts. In any case, their chances are slim.

"Experience shows that for any opposition a solution can be found," Walla quoted a source at the District Committee for Planning and Construction in Jerusalem. "I assume that the Commission will make efforts to approve the construction even if it will take a few hours."

To the discussion of the objections to construction, came, which were opposed by many, including some neighborhood residents who were unhappy because of the building height and the desire to preserve the environment, "In the neighborhood where there are currently 2,000 housing units, an additional 1500 units means almost doubling of the neighborhood. Things cannot be done without the appropriate infrastructure and so tightly", said the representative of the residents.

Most opponents were residents of nearby Shu'fat, who filed not less than 38 objections by Attorney Sami Arshid.

"Jerusalem Basic Law stipulates the city limits and not the United Nations and it is certainly familiar with this area of Jerusalem's municipal area," said a member of the District Committee Yair Gabai. "In regard to the expropriation issue, I want to announce to Arshid that the procedure ended legally. The Local Committee recommended putting this program with an outlook that this program is important for Jerusalem and will be followed by other programs, too - to be continued."

Also a member of the District Committee Yossi Deutsch welcomed, and said: "It is a shame that the program which waited so long for discussion is objected. For many years in Jerusalem it has not been approved for the Haredi sector a mass of 1,500 housing units. We must also think about affordable housing. We are talking of apartments of 95sqm and we must consider even smaller, bringing young couples."
