Coffee shop opened on Shabbos opposite a Yeshiva - and the students demonstrated

Is the city of Rishon Lezion joining the map of Shabbos desecration?

After a long period of relative quiet, a quiet protest was held in the Orthodox area in Rishon Letzion, after a Hadarim coffee shop opened, threatening the peace of the sleepy neighborhood.

Opposite the cafe, is located, the Yeshiva Gedola Rishon Lezion led by Rabbi Druk, Rosh Yeshivas Tifereth Yisrael in Jerusalem. When yeshiva students observed on Friday night that the cafe which was established in the neighborhood residence that carries a religious character, decided to open its doors on Shabbos, they went out into the street and stood in front of the cafe in protest.

100 students started to sing Shabbos songs out aloud, and called out to the few customers who came to respect their feelings and not visit the place on Shabbos. They were joined by residents from the neighborhood, who were shocked by the severe harm of the character of the neighborhood and the desecration of Shabbos in public.

The cafe owner was shocked. He had not expected such a wave of protest and probably did not internalize the size of the scandal.

In a conversation with B'Chadrei Charedim, says Rabbi Moshe Nachshoni, kashrus department rabbi and rabbis of the city, that this is a new burst that was not yet known. "In Rishon Lezion there are several cafes which are open, but they are mostly in malls or streets where the general public lives."

"In general, the municipal law, to my knowledge, allows opening cafes only on Shabbos afternoon, but this cafe has opened on Friday evening and remains open throughout Shabbos. This is a significant Orthodox neighborhood. This is where Kiryat Kalib is. We very much hope that this was the first time and the last and that they won't dare open again on Shabbos. We keep our finger on the pulse. But if they return and continue - we will try to work with city representatives, to close the place.
