Youngsters offered for sale, "an ancient Koran of the Jews"

Four young Muslims were arrested yesterday in Turkey on suspicion of stealing an ancient Sefer Torah - and tried to sell it.

An American Judaica dealer, who was on his way to Israel, visited a shopping center in Istanbul, when he was approached by four young men who offered to sell him "an ancient scroll 2000 years old."

The dealer immediately realized that these are thieves, and offered to meet with them at his friend's antique store in half an hour. Meanwhile, the owner called the Turkey police, and they waited for the youngsters in the store. At the store the youngsters asked for 1500 dollars in exchange for the Sefer Torah. At this point, the police arrested the suspects and transferred the scroll to the owner of the antique shop, who promised the police to send the scroll for inspection in Israel, which will try to discover the identity of the Sefer Torah.

During the interrogation the youngsters said that they found the scroll lying in a garbage bin near their school, and when they presented it to their Muslim principal, he said that it is an old Koran belonging to the Jews and is very valuable.
