First: Bnei Brak was awarded for proper management


After years of conduction under a heavy economic shadow and heavy deficits, the situation reversed. Bnei Brak municipality was awarded for the first time the award on behalf of the Interior Ministry for proper financial management of local authorities. The ceremony was held with the participation of Eli Yishai, Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister, Yuval Steinitz, the finance minister, Yitzchak Cohen, Deputy Finance Minister, Shlomo Bochbot, chairman of the local government, municipal leaders and public figures.


The prize is awarded for financial management in the years 2011-2012, according to the words of Amram Kalaji, Interior Ministry CEO, for the activity in accordance with procedures in a variety of areas, from access to proper management, efficiency and balance of the budget and adequate charter service.

The decision on the authorities who win the prize is received in a professional committee of the Interior Ministry department managers and departments, headed by Mordechai Cohen, director of the Ministry of Local Government Administration. All subjects spoken at the event related in their words the calling of the award named after Chaim Kuberski, Interior Ministry CEO, who was an example of a manager, who was a true and exemplary manager in many different parameters.


The award, in the name of municipality of Bnei Brak, was received by Rabbi Yaakov Asher, the mayor, who was accompanied by accountant Aaron Adler, City Treasurer, Yosef Wickselbaum, mayor headquarter director, Avraham Tannenbaum, municipal secretary and spokesman, Shlomo Itzkowitz, director of revenue, Rachel Shermer, Director of Budget, accountant Shoshana Lerner from Department of Budget, accountant Mali Gordon, education budget, and public administration and finance.

Eli Yishai said that after a few years of stopping the award ceremony, he decided four years ago to renew it, in coordination with the Minister of Finance, and stood on the activity level of the local authorities in the country, which is among the highest in the Western world, adding that mayors worked for their residents at any time and in any situation, today everyone acknowledges that local authorities can play a key part in promoting and leveraging services for their residents.


Yuval Steinitz said that it was decided to renew the award, and provision of appropriate budget whilst viewing the importance of activity in the local government, as well as the government budget in which four years ago the local authorities was then 1.9 billion, and today, is the amount of 2.8 billion, with the intention to do everything to remain within this framework.

The local authorities words were brought by Shlomo Bochbot, chairman of the local government and Mayor of Maalot, calling to government agencies to recognize the importance of local authorities operating activities in situations of need plus hundreds of millions of shekels for their operations due to increase in salaries and payments to contractors, according to the agreements signed by the government.


Samuel Rifman, chairman of the regional councils and the regional council head Ramat Hanegev called the Ministry of Finance not to harm grants for municipal authorities and welcomed Rabbi Yaakov Asher, Mayor of Bnei Brak, who does an excellent job and the municipality under him joins the circle of distinguished winners.

Yaakov Asher, Mayor expressed his delight on receiving the award, stressing that this is a tribute to the municipality and the working team on their hard and effective work, and that the municipality is in the fourth year of a balance funds after the recovery and efficient plan and the formulation of work procedures and Charter Service to streamline the systems as a whole for the benefit of all residents in the city. The mayor emphasized that this award demonstrates more than anything the revolution of Bnei Brak, which has become sought after by banks and government offices and the award shows proper management.

The mayor thanks upon receiving the award and said that the award belongs to the 2600 dedicated municipal employees, who the core values of the city are engraved on their hearts - a partnership, commitment and responsibility, and with great effort were able with G-d's help to bring the city once and for all to stabilize the economic and achievements that will affect future generations for the future of the city and its residents.
