Storm of decade: Sea of Galilee broke all records
פלאש 90

The storm of the decade which landed on Israel last week gives its last signs, but it is now possible to conclude that the data it left behind in Israel has not been seen for 20 years.

The Kinneret Lake broke an all-time record, when in a single day during the storm it rose by 22 cm. The sea level measured daily today revealed an increase of 17 more centimeters, and stands on 211.20-. The distance from a full Kinneret now is just 2.40 meters. During the week of the storm the lake jumped by 73 cm, when usually in a whole winter, it rises by an average of 1.6 meters.

The Water Authority added that strong flows in rivers of the north are expected to add about 50 cm to the water level until the end of January - so that it will complete a rise of two meters from the beginning of the rainy season.

The storm, at the height of which it bleached from yesterday all the mountains of Israel - including Jerusalem - brought a huge amount of rainfall, the likes of which was measured only in the winter of 1992. Since the beginning of January 268 millimeters fell in the Golan - nearly twice the average of a month. The area also holds the title of "record breaker of precipitation" of the winter system.

The Mount Hermon site, which is expected to open its doors to visitors from this morning, there are feverish works to prepare the site and remove the huge quantities of snow which heaped up on the ground.
At the lower cable car the snow reached a level of 1.2 meters. At the upper cable car, site workers struggled to measure the amount of snow, due to the stormy weather.
