Hacked companies, stole credit card information – and went shopping

Yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon a 20 year old southern resident was arrested of after he allegedly had broken into the computer databases of businesses and stole credit card information of their customers across the country. The arrest was made possible by cooperation between North Fraud Unit and the credit card companies Visa and Leumi Card.

While holding stolen credit card information, the youngster went on a shopping spree on the EBay website and bought hundreds of products including clothing, footwear, mobiles, watches, cosmetics and more - totaling thousands of shekels, according to the allegations – the purchases were made over the last year.

Searches of his home found a vast amount of possessions in their original packaging, as well as his personal computer – from where it appears he made the purchases. Following the investigation it was reported to companies that their databases had been breached and credit card details of some of their customers were stolen.

During interrogation the suspect cooperated and this morning was brought for a remand hearing in Akko's Magistrate's Court.
