Shortly after 14:00, the emergency centers received a report of a young man stabbed at Tapuach junction. Judea and Samaria rescue forces that arrived at the scene provided medical care to the 17 year resident of Jerusalem, a yeshiva student at Bnei Chayil in Kedumim, who suffered stabbing in his abdomen, and he was taken to Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva by Mobile Intensive Care Unit of the IDF.

The terrorist, a young man of 23 from Ramallah, was arrested by border guards near the scene, and he is being investigated by SJ police. Two knives were found in his possession.

Initial reports indicate that at about 14:00 Border Policemen have identified a suspect whilst stabbing a settler near the checkpoint. Observation immediately reported this to forces at the checkpoint, which began performing suspect apprehending whilst chasing him by foot, which lasted for about 200 meters. The terrorist was taken for further treatment and investigation at the Samaria Region police station.

Registered attack attempts have been reported in recent weeks by Palestinian officials from the Central Command. In response to this, the command tightens its operations and goes out for arrests every night. Within the last two weeks terrorists who had planned a mass attack in Alon Moreh were arrested and five devices in the Ramallah area were found.

IDF forces arrested seven wanted Palestinians and they were transferred to the security forces. Two days ago Border Police caught at the Tapuach checkpoint seven charges and improvised weapon - which was probably meant to carry out attacks.

According to the GSS, 2013 is the first in about 40 years during which no Israeli civilian was also killed in the West Bank, despite the escalation of terrorist events, including an increase of 42% in cases of terrorism, including shooting, laying explosives or explosive grenade throwing.

Shomron Regional Council head Gershon Mesika, responded to the attack: "First of all I commend the police who caught the terrorist at Tapuach. It is clear to every intelligent person that the atmosphere of the political echelon weakness broadcasted reinforces the motivation of the terrorists to carry out attacks on both sides of the Green Line. Had the barriers security fences throughout the West Bank not been removed, including at Tapuach itself, the terrorist would not have been able to get in armed with a knife. "

"The government must reproduce deterrence. The obvious first step is to restore the security checkpoint at Hawara and Tapuach junction", Mesika concluded.
