Prisoner X case shakesAustralia: Australian foreign minister Bob Carr appeared today (Thursday) before the Senate committee and admitted that his country was updated immediately by Australian intelligence agencies about the arrest of Zygier.

Carr said that Australia sought guarantees from Israel that Zygier was imprisoned in appropriate conditions, with adequate legal representation and that his family was updated about the arrest.

"The government of Israel said that he has all of the conditions due to him by law, and we relied on these promises, in addition at no time did the Australian authorities receive notice that Zygier or his family are seeking state aid in legal advice," he said.

In fact the inquiry itself published on the Australian ABC network Carr denied that he knew about the arrest of Zygier. Fissures in his version began when his spokesman said the arrest was also known to Australia.

However, Director General of the Ministry of Australian Foreign Trade, Peter Wargas wrote a report designed to examine the conduct of the Australian's in the affair and who knew the chain of events.

The report confirms that Australian intelligence agencies informed the Foreign Ministry on the very presence of Zygier in an Israeli prison for the offenses of harming state security.
However, the information may not have come at the time to the foreign minister, Stephen Smith.

Israel itself haג not updated the Australians. Only on December 16, 2010, the day after the suicide of Zygier the Australian embassy in Tel Aviv were updated on the case.

Did not show signs of distress

Attorney Avigdor Feldman told Walla yesterday, that he met the "Prisoner X" at the request of his wife, to give his opinion on whether to accept a plea bargain, although the questionnaire denies the charges.

Feldman said that he did not show that his mental condition was difficult.

Attorney Avigdor Feldman was asked to come to Ben Zygier's cell a day or two before his suicide, in addition to the three lawyers who represented him in all proceedings conducted in the case.
Feldman did so at the request of Zygier's wife.

"I spoke with him in his cell two hours," he said, "I was impressed by Ben's personality he seemed like a good and nice guy."

Attorney said that he did not notice any signs of anxiety or depression, which could indicate that his mental state is difficult.
