Meteorite in the Chelyabinsk skies: At least 500 injured

Early this morning (Friday) people in the Ural Mountains in Russia awoke to the sound of a loud explosion and saw a ball of fire. The blast occurred near the city of Chelyabinsk, and according to reports all the windows of the synagogue located in the city center - were broken.
The explosion was a high-altitude of meteor which leads to the meteor shower. Initially it was reported that no one was hurt, but then it was found that at least 100 people were injured. "Preliminary indications show that this was a meteor shower and we have information that the explosion occurred at a height of 10 km", reports the Ria Novosti.
Chelyabinsk and Sverdlovsk residents said that they saw flaming objects in the sky. Chelyabinsk resident said he heard a huge explosion and felt the blast waves in a building in which he lives in the city center. According to residents, cell phones stopped working; windows were smashed and a local factory roof collapsed.
Rabbi of Chelyabinsk, Shliach Rabbi Meir Kirsch, along with members in the synagogue, are restructuring the place, and workers are repairing broken windows.
On Friday night, at 23:00, another meteorite from space is scheduled to pass by, the size of an office building, very close to Earth. "The great fear is what will happen tonight. This raises panic in the city," says a Jewish community source.
NASA scientists said last week that there has never been seen a meteor so close to Earth. The Asteroid, called 2012 DA14 which moves quickly at 8 kilometers per second, will pass within a distance of 27,600 from Earth.
