Czech Republic: Palestinian ambassador killed by attack at home

Palestinian Authority's ambassador killed in the afternoon (Wednesday) in an explosion which occurred in his apartment in Prague the capital of Czech Republic.

According to preliminary reports in the local media, the senior diplomat, Jamal Al Jamal, was seriously injured and taken to hospital in the city.

Prague officials reported that a powerful explosion rocked the diplomat house, representative of the Palestinian Authority in the Czech Republic. According to reports, the explosion took place after the ambassador pushed open an old safe transferred from the scope of the old embassy and suffered serious injuries in his lungs.

Spokeswoman for the fire services in Prague, Jiri Arnstova, said that the explosion occurred in Sotz'dol District No. 6 in the capital. She added that only one person was evacuated to the hospital.

Palestinian source who spoke to Reuters said the ambassador "transferred an old case from his old to his new home. When he opened it, there was the explosion."

In addition to the ambassador, several people were injured, including a woman of 52 who may be a family member, and others.
