Will Breslov Chassidim have to pay for entry to the grave of Rabbi Nachman of Uman on Rosh Hashana?

New bill lying on the desk of the Ukrainian Parliament and is awaiting approval by the President - disturbing the mass Breslov Chassidim in Israel and the Diaspora.

According to the new bill, the entire area zone to the grave will be fenced. The entrance will be allowed only to special magnetic card holders – which will be sold at special distribution points and will be operated by the local government.

System will contain all the details of the card holder. Including passport number, age, and gender, dates of entry to Ukraine, the country of residence and address in Uman, medical insurance and other details. The bill, every worshiper will have to pay for the ticket 850 Griuona (about $ -105 in local currency) for each day of stay in the area. The price is determined by certain calculations that depend on various measures of taxation and so on.

In return for payment and card services Chassidim will receive services such as sanitation, security, emergency and rescue.

The initiators of the bill are a member of the Ukrainian Parliament Anton Itznko from the area party, and Maxim Polyakov local politician and former deputy mayor of Uman.
Breslov communities worldwide are saddened and surprised by the bill.

According to the Hasidim, it is no less from extortion and exploitation by the corrupt local government bodies, trying to make a fortune by exploiting the Hasidic faith and duty to present all hassidim who stay near the grave of Rabbi Nachman during Rosh Hashanah. "Bill details reminiscent of the dark days in the history of the region, ghetto badge replaced with a modern complex electronic cards. Not to mention the fabulous sum - $ 95 for each day, with five days is the minimum days of stay for all who come to pray in Uman.

Total reaches almost $ 500 (!) "Say the Hasidim.

By certain factors of the Breslov Chassidus there are reasonable grounds to assume that the initiative was shared by cadres of Breslov who want to strengthen their hold and their relationship with local government.

However, the official organizations of Breslov strongly oppose the bill and will take official action and sharp repeal of the law.

Shimon Buscila, CEO, World Breslov Center in Uman, says, that upon the filing of the bill they are working on all levels and this week is supposed to meet with District Governor Chirqas and MP who sponsored the law.

Inquiries were also human rights organizations in Ukraine, where the main arguments are that the law is actually a violation of the fundamental laws of human freedom and privacy and the Freedom Movement in Ukraine. Then there were the numerous requests and letters to activists and political and legal organizations in Ukraine and Europe - that are relevant committees of Parliament responsible for tourism, culture, religion, human rights and so on.
