Foreign Ministry confirms: world's largest seder - canceled

Further reports published in Behadrey Haredim, and reported that the existence of the world's largest Seder - Chabad in Nepal - is at risk following a strike of the Foreign Ministry, responds this morning (Wednesday) Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor, saying that indeed the embassy will not be able to help make the traditional Seder held in place.

"The news is correct," said Palmor, "Unfortunately; the conduct of the Treasury officials forced the State Department to shut down completely, so the Embassy will not be able to help Chabad hold the traditional mass seder for Israeli travelers in Nepal."

• Can Chabad House not carry out the seder without the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs?

"In the early years of the initiative was indeed the order of the Chabad House alone. But after the event has grown and the number of participants has reached thousands of people - the embassy was recruited to help with the organizational handling and transport supplies for the seder. Such a large amount of participants requires help from the embassy. The embassy helped throughout the years with joy but at the moment it seems that this year there will be no help following sanctions. Chabad House may be able to organize them and transport the commodities order independently from Israel. But expenditure is very large, and in addition it is doubtful whether the technical aspect of Chabad does indeed pick up the entire project without help from the embassy".

Recall, the order held at Chabad of Kathmandu is the largest settlement in the world, with about 1,500 people participating in two different halls where the seder was made in Hebrew and English. Besides, local messenger Hezki Lifshitz and his wife Chani, taking care to maintain irregularities throughout Nepal for many Israeli travelers staying there this season, and a total of participants in all the events together about 2,500 people.
