Towards the end of the deadline for extension of talks with the Palestinian Authority and against the background Abbas's threats which were heard from Palestinian sources that he would dismantle the Palestinian Authority if Israel does not comply with his demands. US State Department spokeswoman Jen Saki responded by saying that such a move could damage relations between U.S. and the Palestinian territories and U.S. aid will be harmed too.

As recalled, Palestinian officials sent a message last weekend according to which PA officials will offer to declare the cancellation of the Oslo Accords and the dissolution of the PA. In such a situation a government in exile will be established after the PA will declare its area as occupied territory and its officials will carry their roles in the government in exile.

Responsibility for the 2.5 million residents of the Authority will in that case fall on Israel which will have to build an electric and sewer infrastructure and more.

"Of course this will have serious consequences," said State Department spokeswoman Jen Saki. "Obviously it is not in the interest of the Palestinian people that what has been achieved will be lost. Tremendous efforts have been made to build institutions by the Palestinian Authority and the international community. U.S. has invested millions of dollars in this effort and this move by the authority will seriously harm the relations between us, including our assistance". Saki added that "the parties are talking in an effort to extend the talks."

During the Mimona festivities at Or Akiva, Prime Minister Netanyahu referred to Abbas' words and also said: "The Palestinian Authority spoke yesterday on liquidation, and is talking about unification with Hamas. Then they should decide – do they want liquidation or union? When they want peace – they should let us know. Because we want real peace. Even on this day, the day of our festival, our enemies fired missiles at our settlements, and our policy is clear - to respond immediately and powerfully. We hit anyone who comes to attack us, so we did so and so it will be done."
