Arrested again: Rep. Michael Grimm, whose name came up in the Harav Pinto affair, was arrested yesterday in the United States on suspicion of fraud offenses. As recalled, last week it was decided to indict him on another affair.

Grimm, a member of Congress from the State of New York, denounced charges of fraud offenses involving fraudulent money transfers and tax authorities, and will be released on bail of 400 thousand dollars.

According to the charges, Grimm reported falsely on the salaries of employees, some of whom were in the U.S. illegally, in a restaurant of which he was a co-owner, and with concealment of more than a million dollars in sales and wages. The lawsuit also claims that the congressman lied under oath in his testimony on the subject.

Grimm, a former agent at FBI, left the Bureau in favor of private businesses, and in 2010 was elected to Congress.

The FBI began to interrogate Grimm more than two years ago on suspicion of raising funds offenses. Indictments were filed against two of his contribution recruiters. Diana Durand, who raised funds for Grimm, was charged with transferring for his election campaign illegally more than $10,000. Offer Biton, the other recruiter, admitted defrauding credit.

A federal investigation is also underway against Grimm in the affair of Rabbi Yoshiah Pinto who heads the Shuva Yisrael organization: the rabbi was allegedly blackmailed by businessmen who argued that if he will not pay them, they would reveal medical information about his family. Rabbi Pinto turned to Grimm who promised to address the problem for money but a few months later suspicion arose that Grimm himself was one of the businessmen who extorted the rabbi.
