Shock in Boro Park: A former police officer was arrested on suspicion that he is the one who painted the graffiti on homes, cars and schools in Boro Park on Saturday.

Detectives from the police headquarters 66 which is responsible for the Boro Park area, arrested the officer this morning after the suspect was clearly visible on security videos of the streets and institutions on which he painted graffiti. The suspect worked for the county police headquarters 68 in Brooklyn.

As published in B'ehadrey Haredim, the Boro Park neighborhood residents were shocked to discover that few minutes before Shabbos was over, graffiti was painted on cars on the doors of houses and on the door of the girls' school of Bobov Hasidim of the Ateres Golda hall and more, in total about twenty graffiti.

In the graffiti painted there were no swastikas like the usual anti-Semitic graffiti, but vulgar curses, which even the Gentile residents were shocked at.

The graffiti was written using red spray which was splashed on cars and other places. What surprised many is the fact that the graffiti painter was not afraid of people and made his actions a few minutes before the end of Shabbos, when the streets are full of people who go to shull. The graffiti were made throughout the neighborhood beginning from 39th Street to 50th Street, where most residents belong to the Haredi public.

Motti Katz, a member of Hashomrim in Boro Park, credits the capture of the suspect to the organization: "Late last night we received a phone call from a neighbor who witnessed one of the cases of graffiti and recorded the plate number of the vehicle, we passed it on to the police and I believe that's what helped capture the former officer".

City Councilman David Greenfield says he is shocked by the fact that a police officer at headquarters No. 68 in charge of Ford Hamilton area, bordering the neighborhood of Boro Park, took advantage of his acquaintance with the religious neighborhood, and did what he did.

Assemblyman Dov Hikind said in response that he was glad the suspect was caught, "The suspect who is a police officer knows very well that in homes and educational institutions in the neighborhood they have security cameras to document his actions, but he did not bother to hide his face with something." City Council member Melissa Viortio issued a statement condemning the vandalism this morning.
