First time Haredi woman appointed judge in High Court

Precedent: for the first time a Haredi woman was appointed senior judge in American justice system • will serve in Court of Appeal in Baltimore

Precedent: a first Haredi woman judge was sworn in Baltimore, capital of Maryland.

In an impressive ceremony which was defined in Baltimore as Kiddush Hashem, Keren Hannah Friedman was sworn in as High Court of Appeal judge in Baltimore, and became the first Haredi woman in U.S. history appointed to such a senior position.

Judge Friedman was sworn in as a High Court judge, having served as a district judge since 2010.

In her inaugural speech she said that she is a daughter of Holocaust survivors.

More than three hundred guests attended the inauguration, including lawyers, judges, senators and Mayor Stephanie Rawlings.

During the ceremony, Rabbi Shlomo Dickman, brother of the Justice said: "The role of judges is to dispense justice and thus they become the affiliates of G-d."

Speakers at the ceremony mentioned Friedman's great contribution to the Baltimore community, Friedman thanked her husband who is a lawyer by profession and her family who supported her throughout.
