Satmar has decided to appoint Gabaim on all houses of study of Hasidism in Williamsburg, whose job is to keep track of members with smartphones.
Notice sent to all the houses of study entitled " For the Lord your God walks in the camp" read: " These are the names appointed by the Rebbe Shlita on guard to watch and monitor that will not find boundaries of devices connected to the Internet without a filter. "
Six Gabaim were appointed at the great Beit Midrash, while an additional three were appointed at other places.
Satmar Hasidism veteran says to Behadrey Haredim : "Hard to believe this regulation will help - some Gabaim themselves have non-kosher phones and no one will rat on anyone. This is a state plague, not only within our Hassidus , everything works with the Internet these days.
"Perhaps the minority in kollel do not hold a phone connected to the Internet but businessmen must be connected. Rebbe talks at every opportunity on the ban, but this is a ban the public cannot manage with. This regulation may prevent people from using their phone in the Beit Midrash - nothing more, "said the Satmar Hasid.
