Israel dispatched three firefighting planes and a cargo plane with emergency equipment together with personnel to Cyprus to help combat raging fires in the Cypriot city of Paphos.

In line with a government decision, the IDF said it would assist the Cypriot authorities wherever possible in dousing the flames. According to the Cyprus Mail, this is the biggest fire Cyprus has seen in recent years, with strong winds making it difficult to bring the fire under control.

The blaze, possibly triggered by an attempt to burn dry stubble, broke out on Sunday in the foothills of the eastern Mediterranean island's Troodos region. The Soleas area hardest hit by the blaze is covered by pine forest and fruit orchards.
Two village communities have been evacuated as a precaution and Israel and Greece were contributing air assets to the firefighting effort, including water bombers. Two Cypriot firefighters were injured, one seriously.
