In an interview with Bechadrey Charedim Nitzan share the story behind the winning photo.

"I went to photograph Purim in Meah Shearim with a friend of mine. A number of Yeshiva Bachruim came over to us and asked if we wanted to photograph the Yeshiva. This was back in 2009, when the Rav was Rosh Yeshiva of a small yeshiva. We went up to take some pictures."

As a secular Jew what drew you to Meah Shearim on Purim?

"In general I find all religious ceremonies fascinating. I love shooting these events. Like Lag Baomer in Bnei Brak and other ceremonies. We were there for maybe all of ten minutes. We went into the toom, everyone was in a great mood- real Purim spirit. They were drinking, happy, dancing. They gave us to drink. There was a good atmosphere there."

How did this photo surface now after all these years?

"Truthfully this photo disappeared for a while and just two years ago I suddenly found it again. I said," Wow, how'd I miss this? Now I decided to present this photo to the competition. It's like a painting, the lighting, the hands in the air…"
