Talmud Burnt in France on Friday of Parshas Chukas 1244
Last night's terror attack occurred on a day that has long been considered a day of danger among Jews in the diaspora.

Last night's terror attack in France which killed 80 people and injured about 100 more, occurred on a day that Jews the world over have long mourned as a day of tragedy. In the year 1244 the Talmud was burnt in France, on the ninth of Tamuz, Erev Shabbos Parshas Chukas. (In the diaspora this week is Parshas Chukas).
The first large public burning of the Talmud took place in Paris on the ninth of Tamuz.
The books of Talmud were transported in 20 wagons to the city square where they were publicly burnt.
The Maharam of Rothenburg, who was the talmid of Harav Yechiel of Paris composed the Kinah, "Shali Srufah B'eish L'Shalom Avilayich" "שאלי שרופה באש לשלום אבליך" about the tragic burning of the Talmud.
Included in the elegy are the words :
"עוד תגזרי לשרוף דת אש וחקים ולכן אשרי שישלם לך כגמוליך".
The Magen Avraham wrote on Hilchos Tanis in the Shulchan Aruch :
(אורח חיים סוף סימן תק"פ) מובאים דברי הספר תניא ליחיאל בן יקותיאל בן בנימין הרופא כאן, ולפיהם: "ביום השישי פרשת חקת נהגו יחידים להתענות שבאותו היום נשרפו כ' קרונות מלאים ספרים בצרפת ולא קבעו אותו בימי החדש מפני שמתוך שאלת חלום נודע להם שיום הפרשה גורם גזירת התורה. זאת חקת התורה מתרגמינן דא גזירת אוריתא"
Meaning that since the Talmud was burnt on Friday, erev Shabbos Parshas Chukas, there are those who fast on that day.
The Friday before Parshas Chukas is a day long considered to be dangerous, it is the only fast day that is related to a day of the week and not to a day of the month. It is noted that on the very same day that the Torah was burnt in France, two large communities were destroyed by the Cossacks.
