Baruch Dayan Haemes. Tonight (motzei shaboss). Rabbi Yosef Dov Fischer, rav of the Beis Midrash LeTorah in Rechovot was nifter Friday night, at the age of 86.
Rav Fisher zt”l led the Beis Midrash for over 40 years by means of differentiation from the government, avoided receiving funds from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the municipality.
He was a special Baal Tefilla and Chasan on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippor.
He had a minhag to say all yotzrois during Adar and Nissan. On shabbos during bein hazmanim Rosh Yeshivas Or Hatalmud, Rabbi Chaim Zlibnski zt”l and Hgra"i Kook Shlit”a came to the Beis Medrash to daven and hear the special tefillos. Every shabbos mevorchim many people came to hear Rav Fisher’s special birchas hachodesh.
For many years he gave weekly shiurim in Kollel 'Birchas Elchanan’, led by Rabbi Nathan Stniitzki. About 19 years ago Rav Fisher had a stroke and despite his difficulty, he tried with all his strength to get to the beis Medrash on weekdays and shabbos as he used to.
He left a beautiful family. His sons in law: Rav Chaim Freund rosh kollel Nachlas Moshe in Bnei Brak. Rav Chaim Green in Bnei Brak and Rav Avraham Bennett Bnei Brak. His brothers In-law are the previous Vizhnitz Rebbe zt”l and Rav Pollak from Beit Chilkiya.
His levaya will leave tonight from the beis medrash to Har Hamenuchos in Yerushalayim.
