The Israeli military attacked artillery sites in Syria on Tuesday after a missile from Syria’s civil war hit the Israeli-controlled part of the Golan Heights. Officials denied a Syrian claim that Syrian forces shot down two Israeli aircraft. The Israeli military said two missiles fired at the aircraft, but both missed their targets.

Israeli soldiers and UNDOF diplomats monitor Syrian border near the village of Majdal Shams in the Israeli-occupied division of the Golan Heights on September 13, 2016. No damage or injuries reported in the incidents.

“The IDF will not allow any attempt to harm Israel’s autonomy and safety of its citizens,” the statement said, continuing that Israel holds the Syrian government responsible for any weaponry lanced into Israeli territory.

Israeli warplanes have carried several attacks on Syrian army sites over the past weeks after bullets hit Israeli-controlled. A few hours later Israeli aircraft countered and “targeted artillery positions of the Syrian Regime in the central Syrian Golan Heights.”
