Officials are still trying to assess what caused the blast. Investigators believe that an explosive device in or near a dumpster caused the blast. A source stressed this is preliminary and is not conclusive. Police have increased security throughout New York City as a precaution; a law enforcement source told CNN.
The area of the incident is filled with restaurants, railroad stations, stores, businesses and art galleries. The fire department said the explosion happened at 23rd Street and 6th Avenue in Manhattan. 25 injuries to civilians were verified. No injuries seem to be life-threatening at this time
