A fire that erupted near Nataf a town close to Yerushalayim, has forced the town’s residents to evacuate their homes. Spurred by the strong winds that were blowing, the fire headed in the direction of the town at a very fast rate prompting the commander of ‘Police and fire stations’ to order the entire towns evacuation. As the fire neared the town, the electric company which was monitoring the situation from close-up, cut off all the electric flow into the area. Eight fire fighter planes and 25 firefighting crews were battling the out of control blaze as it was making its way into the town. More crews are currently being mobilized and brought in to assist in battling the fires.

Because of the strong winds, the fire is still spreading north towards the towns of Neve Illan and Mevo Choron, currently their evacuation has not been ordered yet.
Minister of interior, Aryeh Deri ordered ‘Misrad Hapnim’s’ emergency administration to provide immediate assistance to the regions that were affected by yesterday and todays fires. The assistance provided is in absorbing stranded residents and assuring that local regional councils can continue functioning as normal.
Per ‘Misrad Hapnims’ instructions, regional councils are mutually helping each other out. Chof Karmel regional council is providing support for the Zichron Yackov regional council and Abu Gosh is absorbing stranded residents from Nataf.
“I want to thank the firefighting services that are doing everything in their power to bring the fires under control. I hope that with our joint effort we will succeed in significantly alleviating the plight of the residents in the hard-hit areas” said Aryeh Deri Minister of interior.

Yoram Halevi, commander of the Jerusalem district police was on the site and said “When we first realized that a real danger was posed to the town we started evacuating residents and drivers from the area. Police officers went from house to house making sure everyone had left and that no one was left behind. Two of the local houses caught fire and sustained damages”.
He added “At this stage there is no real danger posed to the homes but the fire is still out of control. We are continuing to do everything that we can to save lives and help the residents return to a safe and secure routine as fast as possible”.
