One of the witnesses who testified before the investigative committee of the missing Yemenite children, said “someone mentioned that if you want to take a child it costs $5,000”.

The committee recently released 3,500 files containing 210 thousand documents dealing with the missing children.

Most of the documents are protocols and investigations done by various previous investigative committees into the matter.

The “Cohen-Kedmy” committee, which had investigated the matter back in 2001, studied 1,033 cases of missing babies. Their findings state that 972 babies died from natural causes and 56 cases are still shrouded in mystery. Although their whereabouts are not known there was no indication of their being abducted by an institution.

Prior to the documents being released, a special ceremony, attended by PM Netanyahu, was held. PM Netanyahu said “today we are rectifying an historic wrongdoing, whether ignoring or covering up, perhaps discrimination- we are not sure. We are talking about the destiny of the Yemenite children, for almost 60 years their whereabouts have not been known”.

PM Netanyahu further said that it’s “something incomprehensible and cannot continue. Hence the criteria set for the committee has been transparency and just”.

Many ministers and MK’s are also calling for full transparency and disclosure of all the relevant documents in the scandal.

Although earlier committees denied that any abductions took place, the current committee reveals the opposite to be true. There is clear evidence and testimony given by many witnesses, clearly proving the many abductions that took place, including abduction of children from north African countries.

Some documents reveal that children were offered for $5,000 to foreign families looking to adopt them.
