Six Generations To The ‘Chatam Sofer’: Gava”d Pressburg ZT”L

BD”H: Gava”d of Pressburg, Hagaon R’ Simcha Bunim Sofer-Shreiber ZT”L, Rav of the Pressburg Beis Medrish in Givat Shaul- Yerushalayim, was nifter this morning at 84.

The Rav was a direct descendent, six generations to the great leader of Hungarian Jewry, the ‘Chatam Sofer’. He was born in Czechoslovakia on Yud Gimel Teves -1933, to his father Hagaon R’ Avraham Shmuel Binyamin Sofer ZT”L, author of the famous work, ‘Shavet Sofer’- who was the son of the ‘Das Sofer’.

His entire life he led the kehillah at the Pressburg shul in Givat Shaul, and was well known for his weekly Friday night drashes that would captivate and inspire the listeners.

He was also known to be well versed (Ball Peh) in the teachings of his forefathers, and was makpid on all the minhagim of the ‘Chatam Sofer’ ZY”O
He leaves behind him a large family of talmidei chachomim that are following in his footsteps. His son R’ Avraham Shmuel Binyamin Sofer-Shrieber, the Rosh Kollel of Beis Medrish pressburg will be stepping in to fill his place at the Pressburg mosdos.
