Friedman: "I've never had a conflict with anyone" • Interview

Six children of Moshe Aryeh Friedman, who lives in Antwerp, Belgium, will begin the next school year in Yesodey Torah, an educational institution on behalf of Beis Yaakov, thus bringing an end to the struggle waged against the local Haredi community factors.

In an interview with B'Chadrei Charedim, Friedman says straight from his home in Belgium: "No one thought it would end differently."

Struggle against Friedman and his family was mainly against the institution managers for their refusal of accepting his two sons and four daughters to school. For almost two years Friedman managed a legal battle against those in the community, which ended with victory.

School administration, Yesodey Torah, refused to accept the children, argued that there are two reasons for this: first - the fact that Friedman's kids do not speak Flemish - Belgium local language. Two - the achievements of the previous school are not familiar with them.

"This is of course nonsense," Friedman rejects the claims outright. "My children speak Flemish better than a lot of Jews in Belgium, and they also brought beautiful results and achievements in previous institutions they attended."

Later, they discovered the real reason: his ties with Muslim leaders around the world and unconventional political views.

In a ruling issued this week, the Supreme Court addressed the issue, stating that the father's views should not be connected with the children's education. "The father's political ideas are not meant to influence the education of his children," wrote the judges.

Friedman is pleased that the Court took this decision: "This decision shows that human rights are a priority in this country. My children are happy and excited, and I and my wife are happy about the decision as well."

Friedman is currently handling the completion of enrollment in educational institutions. However, he cannot understand why the directors struggled against him within the community.

"I never had a dispute with anyone, but it seems there are people that led the public astray when it comes to me and my family. There is no reason for me to reveal these people in the media, since my job is to fight for my family and our rights."
