Anti-Semitism in France: protesters burned shops • view

A violent demonstration against Israel was held today (Sunday) afternoon in Sarcelles, France, during which Molotov cocktails were thrown at the main synagogue and Jewish shops were burned. The protesters shouted "Death to the Jews", and were dispersed with tear gas.

Hillel Yitzchak, a local resident, says in an interview with Behadrey Haredim: "I live right in front of the synagogue, it was very scary. A group of five hundred Muslim protesters came toward the Jewish neighborhood of Sarcelles and especially toward the Central Synagogue, while roaring "Death to the Jews" and other curses. When they came close to the synagogue, police and the Jewish League tried to stop them, the police even used tear gas, but they started throwing Molotov cocktails, stones and all kinds of things.

"Then they tried to approach the Jewish neighborhood, this is a neighborhood of three blocks where many Jewish families reside, the police tried to stop them, but on the way they burned down completely the local kosher food shop and pharmacy. The truth is that we Jews are very afraid, my friends and I have always traveled to work on the train, but these days we do not dare get on it and we travel in private vehicles.

"I am now looking out my window, even though the demonstrators had dispersed, dozens of police officers and members of the League who guard the synagogue have remained, we must remember that in the town of Sarcelles twenty thousand Jews live, and they tried to destroy precisely the main synagogue," summarizes Hillel Yitzchak, who documented the event from his window.

The illegal violent demonstration which took place today is a continuation of a violent and unlawful demonstration held last Saturday in Paris. Thousands of pro – Palestinian demonstrators protested, against the wishes of President Holland, who ordered the police not to permit pro-Palestinian demonstrations. There were also demonstrations in the cities of Lille and Marseille.

In North Paris protesters also fired at police, who responded with tear gas and stun grenades. Some protesters climbed to the roof of a building and burned the Israeli flag.

Paris police have made it clear that "those who do not respect the ban face the risk of arrest and trial." The activists protested against what they call "Israeli violence in Gaza." French President Francois Holland said he understands the emotional response to the killing of Palestinians in Gaza, but clarified that the law will be enforced.

London
Anti-Israel demonstrations were held last Saturday around the world, the biggest held in London with the participation of 20 thousand people - most of them Muslims. The demonstration procession opened at Downing Street - the street where Prime Minister David Cameron lives, then in front of the Parliament - until it arrived at the Israeli embassy. Many security forces arrived at the scene to prevent riots and clashes.

Thousands showed up to protest loudly against Israel's actions in Gaza during Operation Solid Rock and call for economic sanctions against Israel. This is an unprecedented power display in recent years in London, even compared to the scope of demonstrations during Operation 'Pillar of Cloud' in 2012. Among the signs waved at the huge demonstration were: "Stop the slaughter now", "Free Palestine" and "Remove the siege on Gaza". Some of the demonstrators and speakers at the rally even called for a boycott of Israel. Among the thousands of demonstrators again stood out a handful of followers of Neturei Karta who came to the demonstration dressed in Shabbos clothes carrying signs against Israel.

Krakow, Poland
In a central square in Krakow, Poland this week young pro - Palestinian attacked members of "Nefesh Yehudi – Shem Olam" group, who were visiting the country. When they noticed the group of Israelis, the demonstrators approached them and began to push them and spit on them. Local police separated the rioters.
