Rage and astonishment of Viznitz Hassidim in Stamford Hill: Talmud Torah "Chaim Meirim" of the Hasidim, attended by 248 children aged 3-13, received last Friday a closure order for refusing to teach the core curriculum studies.

The Ministry of Education which sent the order, gave the school board a month to appeal it.

The story began six months ago, when the Ministry of Education paid a surprise visit to the Talmud Torah, where inspectors found that the institution does not teach the core curriculum studies, contrary to the law in England, requiring all schools - including private schools - to teach core curriculum studies.

The school was already warned then, but according to the Ministry of Education did not change the curriculum. In a month's time the Talmud Torah's name will be removed from the list of schools, and its license to operate the school will be removed, which means that its operators will be charged with a serious criminal offense.
