Chief of Staff, Lt. Gen. Benjamin (Benny) Gantz spoke this morning (Sunday) at a conference in memory of Lt. Gen. Amnon Lipkin-Shahak and referred to the changes taking place in recent years in the Middle East. "Deletion of rough boundaries at the highest conceptual strategy poses a threat to the state structure in the Middle East as we knew it, and beyond the special-interest groups that may be replaced," he said.

"On one side there is a radical power struggle, global Jihad makes every effort to maintain the relationship between Iran and Syria and Lebanon. There is competition between ISIS and Al Qaeda. On the other side are moderate states we might join them. We see a huge conflict between the various forces, a struggle which will last for quite a while and we cannot ignore it and the sound of the street ".

Chief of Staff continued, stressing that "we cannot afford not to intervene; the West cannot afford not to intervene. You'd think the conflicts are local, but you cannot leave it without treatment, and I think the world understands this and is trying to contain the challenge of Jihad and direct action on this issue in international cooperation.

Concerning the recent tension on the northern border, said: "We are prepared and ready. We dealt with it all weekend and we will continue to engage in the coming days. We cannot afford to be active in the northern region in terms of our enemy and terror around that we will have to act".

Chief of Staff referred carefully even to the subject of negotiations with the Palestinians. "There is no doubt that this issue is very important to us and I guess they found a way to help them." He added that "there is no connection between the Israeli-Palestinian struggle we see in Iraq and Syria, but unfortunately all one can say the Palestinian cause is the most important and connects them all. This issue is important for us ourselves, region, relations with the international community and Israel's ability to maintain international cooperation and large many issues ".

Chief of Staff noted that ISIS is now facing strong technological armies and that the organization will watch the matches using the underground medium and in becoming part of the population. He added that "Hezbollah rocket arsenal today has unmatched to any country in the world. Range of threats is very broad."
