Women of the Wall, you shot yourselves in the foot

How did a warm memory about the Jerusalemite aunt walking to the Western Wall every day to finish the Book of Tehillim, become political and unpleasant bullying

Women of the Wall, you shot yourselves in the foot

The last requirement of the Women of the Wall is lighting Chanukah candles in the women's section at the Western Wall. I look at the fervor surrounding the issue and wonder and do not understand them, why did you shoot yourselves in the foot?
If we look back for a moment, then 20 years ago there was no concept of women (or wives) of the Wall. For us, women and the Wall always reminded us of the Jerusalemite aunt who would walk on foot every day to the remnant of our Temple and finish the book of Tehillim daily. Over the last ten - fifteen years, this changed due to the demands of women's organizations to read the Torah at the Western Wall. At first the camps bustled and the winds blew strong, everyone who could fight, fought.
For some time, the story of women who want to bring a Torah scroll to the Western Wall, does no longer really interest the hareidi sector. You could say they behave their own way even if it is not worthy in the eyes of an entire community, and the public says to itself: Nu shoin, what's new? They're just looking for attention and provocation. This is what we already know and are used to, and you could say they have already by their public struggles, inculcated their provocative habit. Using the psychological concept of idealization, they managed to get their finger in and get a wedge into a holy place, and they are simply there.
So they kept silent towards them - but it seems to have started to bore. Or - it is time to reveal their true intentions. So they decided to break the status quo, and thus, MKs Kesenia Svetlova and Tamar Zandberg join the provocation, and set a requirement to conduct a candle lighting ceremony at the Western Wall for women. And here an uproar already takes place. Because when a person is satisfied with regard to something he took, even if against the wishes of the other, and reached a silent "agreement", so be it, but then when he breaks the silence and expresses another demand, the bowl may topple over and destroy the first thing that exists.
It may well be that by placing the demand to have more spiritual activities at the Wall, the rules may be broken even on what had happened quietly until now. In a response letter from the Western Wall rabbi, Rabbi Rabinowitz said: "I fear that the demand for lighting candles in the women's section, is merely another media provocation that seeks to drag the issue again to the polarized starting points, instead of encouraging finding a solution for the benefit of all of Israel." Even the Attorney General's Office accepted the position of the Western Wall Rabbi, as he proved to them that in past years women were invited for lighting the candles.
And those are the things to which I directed. Suppose that for 10 years there was silence on the actions of these women, who demanded to read the Torah at the Western Wall. The situation could continue in blissful silence, without even a spark of riots. Even the Rosh Chodesh prayers which briefly dragged the haredi militancy who attacked and were arrested, and tried to sabotage - faded quickly. Because as I wrote, it's really kind of enough for the public - and they realized that they need their pound of flesh, and are ready to act in any way to provoke the public and there is no point in fighting them. Want to read the Torah? Read quietly. Leave us alone.
So why the fuss now? What's the problem with the lighting of Chanukah candles? Even assuming this had no halachic prohibition, the public suddenly realizes. What does it realize? That there is no innocent thing and a will to introduce prayer at the Wall. There is a prevailing trend and the introduction of foreign spirits in provocative ways sanctioned by the law. It will not stop at prayers, it will continue to light the Hanukkah candles and reach where? I do not want to give them ideas, but they get in my head and it definitely angers.
At least now people understand the true intentions, never again "Give them and let them shut up", but a struggle for the character, on principle. It's a pity you couldnt make do with a finger that kept the interests yours, for when you raise your voice in cries to get the whole hand, it is clear that they will shut the heart towards you.
