Eleven people were injured in Parc Monceau in Paris, when lightning struck a birthday party. Eight of the injured are children, many of whom are in life threatening condition.
They had been seeking shelter from the storm under a tree.
In Hoppstaedten, Germany another 35 people were taken to the hospital when lightning struck a children's football match.
Witnesses claim that there were no dark clouds and that the sky was blue when lightning struck at the end of the football game.
Three adults in their 40's are hospitalized, two of whom were airlifted to the hospital.
Most of the children were taken to the hospital as a precaution after their EKG's showed irregularities.
