Knesset Honors Harav Haber and Matnat Chaim
A first in the Knesset: a day of appreciation for altruistic kidney donors, and the nonprofit organization Matnat Chaim.

MK Yoav Ben Tzur of Shas has taken the initiative to organize a day of appreciation for kidney donors in Israel. Mk Yoel Edelstein and Health Minister Yakov Litzman hosted Harav Yeshayahu Haber and the Matnat Chaim organization. Matnat Chaim is a nonprofit organization that has greatly promoted the concept of altruistic kidney donation in Israel.
President Rivlin spoke at the ceremony. He said," The giving of these donors is without any thought of recompense. Their entire motivation is to spare a stranger from suffering. They are heeding a request that at times isn't even expressed. These deeds, this act of human courage creates a living tapestry that connects the entire Israeli community and turns it into a healthy and functioning body. In this remarkable act of giving a donation is given not only to the ill person- but to the entire country as well. You have made me and all of those who have heard about your deed into bigger believers- in man, in the goodness of the human heart and in this wondrous country that has produced such individuals.
Harry Langman who was previously a senior member of the treasury spoke about his son who underwent a kidney transplant thanks to an altruistic donor who didn't even know him. The finance committee spoke about the saving of billions of shekels, when thanks to a kidney donor one is spared form ongoing dialysis treatments. The education committee spoke about the need to explain and promote the concept of altruistic kidney donation. They also mentioned the need to promote benefits for students who donate as well as the need for institutions of higher learning to accommodate their schedules in regard to recuperation.
After the discussions there was a festive ceremony in the Shprintizk hall for about a hundred donors and their families.
