Within the investigation of the death of former Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat the first stages of opening his grave began today (Tuesday). Work - mainly removing the stone structure of his tomb - will continue for two weeks.

Immediately after opening the grave French researchers will arrive at Ramallah along with scientists from Russia and Switzerland and they will take samples from the remains of the body of Arafat, to understand more about the circumstances of his death and try to find out the allegations - that he was poisoned by radioactive chemicals.

The procedure for opening the grave began today, after the Palestinian Authority demanded last July from Europe to establish a UN commission of inquiry, on the cause of Arafat's death - seven and a half years ago.

The Palestinian demand came in the wake of scientist's revelations in Switzerland, who found a lethal substance which emits radiation in Arafat clothes which he wore during his last days.

One close friend of the former President Authority, said that two weeks prior to his death, Arafat was overcome by fatigue and ceased to function and gradually lost his appetite, and then realized he was poisoned. However, the findings are inconclusive - and the fact that radioactive material was in the clothes of Arafat does not mean it was there eight years ago.
