Do not forget • Norway Police apologizes for Holocaust

Remember not to forget. Norway Police released today an official announcement that they regret their role in the arrest and deportation of Jews to concentration camps during World War II.

"On behalf of Norwegian police who were responsible for the deportation of Norwegian Jews to the concentration camps, I want to apologize," said the new chief of police, Ryder Hemelgard.

Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, has already expressed regret during the International Holocaust Remembrance Day held last January 27 - Norwegian citizens that took part in the arrest and deportation of its Jews.

Norway's Jewish community welcomed the apology. "It is never too late to do the right thing," said the president of the community, Evin Kohn.

70 years ago more than 700 Norwegian Jews and Jewish refugees, including many women and children, were arrested by Norwegian police, and sent to the port of Oslo.

There they were loaded onto ships and transported to Auschwitz. Only 34 of them survived.
