End of the fight took place on the permit of circumcision in Germany?

After a heated battle today (Wednesday) a state law was approved that would allow the continued existence of the Mitzvah of circumcision.

The German government formulated an alternative law allowing the performance of the commandment, to prevent violation of freedom of religion after earlier this year a local court in Germany ruled that circumcision is illegal.

The new law was approved in the Parliament in Berlin, by an overwhelming majority of 434 in favor, compared with only 100 against.

A minority supported a proposal that the parents will have to wait until their son reaches the age of 14, in order to get his opinion and approval to the process.

Harav Aryeh Goldberg, vice president of the Rabbinical Centre of Europe, said that "This is good news not only for the Jews in Germany but for all European Jews.

"We have seen how the anti-circumcision proceed in Germany is starting to flow to other countries in Europe, therefore the legislation at the Bundestag has an all-European importance.

"We congratulate the German Jews and their leaders about it. Likewise, we thank the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel who expressed her commitment in a letter which she sent to us."
