Prior to the trial • Prayer Day against "prohibition of mouth sucking "

This coming Tuesday the court in New York will hold a hearing on the petition filed by the Orthodox organizations against the decision of City Council of New York to limit the ritual mouth sucking procedure during circumcision. Following that, people will gather today (Sunday) in the Synagogue's throughout the city, to carry out prayers to cancel the decree.

In recent days notices were posted in the ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods of Brooklyn calling out to pray against the decree. 'Eideh Charedi' went out with a special call to join the prayer as well in Israel.

"To annul the terrible decree" read the ad title, signed by heads of Badatz Eideh Charedi, Hgr"it Weiss and Reb Moshe Sternbuch. "Cry of the children of Israel inhabitants of the State of New York came to us when the mayor decided to uproot some commandments of circumcision by prohibiting mouth sucking customary from generation to generation. Therefore, this is a time of sorrow for Yaakov and we need to pray and beg."

The petition was filed two months ago by three Jewish organizations including, Agudath Yisrael of America - and three mohels, and shared by all Orthodox circles in New York.

According to the decision of the City of New York, every mohel must sign the parents on a special form before the 'mouth sucking' procedure in circumcision. The purpose of the new regulation, according to the city's Health Department is to prevent transmission of diseases, and is promoted by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, after it emerged at least 11 babies' were infected between 2004 to 2011 by herpes following sucking mouth. Two babies died and two others suffered brain damage.

Mohelim and Jewish organizations claim that the new ordinance of the municipality is "illegal" and violates the freedom of religion. They said the study led to the enactment of limited and full installation defects, and must not rely upon significant and sensitive issue like this.

In contrast, the city's health commissioner said previously: "The city should protect its citizens, and it is important that parents know the risks of such proceedings."
