Branch Manager choked in a mall in Herzliya

A fatal fire broke out this evening (Wednesday), at the Arena Mall in Herzliya.

Fire crews rescued so far six injuries from smoke inhalation, including seven wounded, two of them critically.


Shalom Besson, a 55 year old city resident and Bank Hapoalim branch manager on Montefiore Street in Tel Aviv, was strangled to death.


Hatzalah, Hatzalah Gush Dan and MDA medic, gave medical treatment to victims at the scene: including a man in serious condition, who later died, and 2 other women who had lost consciousness, and needed to be resuscitated, and in addition three casualties who were evacuated in mild condition to Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv.

Fire crews then searched for trapped or injured people, meanwhile, opened an investigation into the circumstances of the outbreak of fire.


Ronnie Selah a Hatzalah medic said at the end of the event: "After about 20 minutes of firefighting operations and rescue we rescued a man of about 50 in critical condition and was evacuated whilst doing CPR to the hospital, after that a 30 year old was rescued while unconscious and was taken after successful resuscitation, anesthetized and ventilated to Ichilov.

"Then another victim was evacuated in critical condition also to Ichilov Hospital. In addition: four other victims who suffered smoke inhalation were rescued in mild condition from the building and after initial medical treatment we gave them the casualties were evacuated to hospitals."

Itzik German a Hatzalah Gush Dan rescue medic said: "firefighters worked very hard to rescue the wounded through the restaurant window. A 40 year old critically wounded who had CPR performed on him on the way to hospital was pronounced dead later at the hospital.


"Two more injured, unconscious, were also taken in very difficult situation to Ichilov. In addition another three other people were injured mild to moderate."
