Came out strengthened • Hirchson was released from jail and "thanks G-d"

From my distress I call unto you? Former Finance Minister Avraham Hirchson, was released this morning (Wednesday) from prison and shows signs of strengthening: "I am now going to thank Hashem, embrace my family, thank my good friends who helped me," he said.


This statement joins reports that the former minister - accused of theft and breach of trust – has come closer to religion within the prison. In an article in Yedioth Achronoth Rabbi Yitzchak Dovid Grossman of Migdal Haemek said: "He told me he believes in G-d one hundred percent. He is still not with peyos, but he is strengthening. I give a lesson there once a week or two weeks and Hirchson participates in all of them, intervenes and asks questions. In addition to studying, Hirchson became an officer of the prisoners unit's social worker. Each prisoner in emotional distress, he cares for them and says: I'll bring you to Rabbi Grossman to receive his blessing."

With his release Hirchson will join the volunteer project of Rabbi Grossman which helps Holocaust survivors and the elderly.


Hirchson family's happiness is not complete today because while the father is released, their son, Barack, is waiting for the verdict in his case, after driving drunk and caused an accident in which he seriously injured his former spouse. "Every day I pray the peace of Noa and I like any other father who loves his children I worry about my children," he said.

Hirchson was charged in the year תשס"ט with theft, money laundering, fraud and breach of trust. The verdict sentenced him to five and a half years in prison, and this morning, after deducting one third for good behavior, he is released.
